About Us
Community Thread’s vision is a community where all people are engaged, enriched and connected. We leverage resources and volunteers to improve the quality of life for adults and their families in our local community.
Community Thread began in 1967 when a group of concerned citizens identified a problem: people who no longer were able to drive needed rides to medical appointments. Knowing that we live in a community where people care about each other, these caring community leaders recruited volunteers to address the need. As the founding concept of the organization, Community Thread continues to connect people with needs to volunteers willing to help.
Our volunteer-oriented programs serve people of all ages. Families, individuals, employees and students participate in our signature service initiatives, which occur four times a year. We provide opportunities for adults of all ages to volunteer in a variety of ways through Community Thread and many other organizations in the area.
Our programs for older adults, offered at both our Stillwater and Bayport locations, provide extensive programming for older adults, who participate and engage with us in a variety ways. Two programs blend the focus on volunteers and older adults. Through our Transportation Program, we provide volunteer drivers who transport older adults to medical appointments, and our Chore Services volunteers help older adults remain safely in their own homes by assisting with home maintenance tasks.
